EKU Online Fire Protection Students Receive Fire Suppression Systems Association Scholarships

The Fire Suppression Systems Association (FSSA) has awarded two scholarships to students in the EKU Online Fire Science Program. Sarah Guynup and Derrick Meis will each receive $1,000 to continue their education. Both are earning bachelor’s degrees in the fully online fire protection and safety engineering technology program at Eastern Kentucky University.

Firefighters, Fire Science and EKU Adapt During COVID-19

COVID-19 has infiltrated our lives and has established a new normal. As we take every precaution and don our face masks to run essential errands, our frontline workers are bravely facing this pandemic head-on. Shauna Baccus, an EKU Online student from Saskatoon, Canada, is earning her degree in fire, arson and explosion investigation while working as a firefighter.

EKU Online Fire Science Degrees Receive Two Top 10 Awards

EKU’s fire science degree program ranked no. 2 among the Top 15 Best Online Fire Science Degrees for 2020 according to Online Schools Report.

EKU Expands Fire & Safety Laboratory

The ribbon cutting for the expansion of EKU’s Ashland Fire & Safety Laboratory was held January 13. The facility is now double its original size and will provide students with what Dean Vic Kappeler called a “first rate integration of research laboratories and student learning.”
