The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics** (BLS) predicts that employment of firefighters is expected to increase as much as 7 percent by 2022. Overall, protective services occupations are expected to increase by 8 percent.
Although the demand for services will increase, job opportunities may be limited. Those with an advanced degree should have an advantage.
A 2013 survey of EKU fire program graduates with bachelor’s degrees found that
- 100% agreed that the degree expanded their knowledge in the industry
- 96% agreed that the degree helped them advance in the field
- 86% agreed that the degree helped them get promoted or secure a promotion
